Research interests
It is undeniable that changes and adaptations in agricultural and food systems are needed. Legumes like lupins and lentils can be part of solutions by fixing atmospheric nitrogen and by delivering valuable proteins in human and animal nutrition. Fascinated about the potential of including legumes into cropping systems I am working within the HORIZON-project LEGENDARY - KnowLEdGE creation and iNcreasing acreage of legumes in Diversified cropping systems by quAntification of theiR ecosYstem services. Within the project I am focusing on quantification and qualification of ecosystem services in mixed cropping systems of legumes in comparison to other crops in different agroclimatic zones. The aim is to see how intercrops including legumes may be beneficial within agricultural systems to increase their acreage in Europe which may enhance sustainability of agroecosystems. In addition, transfer of knowledge and practical information to farmers is included in the project. With regard to ecosystem services weeds, pollinators, pests, diseases, susceptibility to water erosion and soil properties are going to be investigated. Furthermore, the effect of the mixed cropping systems on yield and yield quality parameters are going to be examined.

I work in the Research group Extension Arable Crops at Agroscope (Reckenholz). My supervisors are Dr. Susanne Vogelgsang at Agroscope and Prof. Dr. Johan Six at ETHZ.
