Research Interests

My PhD position is part of the SNSF project REFGRASS (Towards Representative N2O Emission Factors for Grazing Systems in Switzerland) led by the research group for Climate and Agriculture at Agroscope. The main objective of my research is to establish country-specific N2O emission factor (EF) values for grazing based and fertilizer based nitrogen inputs in Switzerland. EF values are used for quantifying and reporting agricultural N2O emissions. Switzerland is still using global EF values, although other countries use country-specific constant values that show a large range of EF values and suggest a potential systematic error applying global default values.
For estimating EF values I carry out field-scale and patch-scale N2O flux measurements on a pasture field. Furthermore, relevant factors that might control N2O fluxes are recorded and analyzed.
I work at Agroscope in the group of Climate and Agriculture under the supervision of Dr. Christof Ammann. Prof. Johan Six supervises my PhD thesis at ETH Zürich.
