Research Interests
I have worked on greenhouse gas measurements from agricultural soils. The main focus has been the impact of biochar application to soil on nitrous oxide emissions and the changes in nitrogen cycling. Biochar is a black carbon rich, porous and recalcitrant material produced from organic residues in pyrolysis. In my masters thesis at Agroscope, I found significantly reduced nitrous oxide emissions in biochar soil incubations in the lab. In my PhD I started two field experiments to measure nitrous oxide and we also tested the hypothesis whether biochar improves crop yields in temperate climate conditions and modern agricultural practices.
