Research Interests

My PhD project "GHG-Recycle4Bio" aims to research the effects of recycling-fertilizers from different origins on nitrogen losses via gaseous emissions and on soil quality. In a 2.5-years field experiment, i collect measurements on N2O and CH4 emissions using closed static chambers. In a second part of the PhD, i will investigate the microbial community composition of denitrifying bacteria via functional genes. On field, i quantify NH3-emissions with micrometeorological methods complemented by wind modelling. Biochar, pyrolzed charcoal from plant residues, is examined for its potential for nitrogen retention in liquid slurries and its effects on NH3-emissions.
I work at FiBL Switzerland / Department of Soil Sciences under supervision of PD Else Bünemann-König. Prof. Johan Six supervises my PhD thesis at ETH Zürich.
